Polygon Surges to Become Second-Largest Gaming Blockchain

written by John Murphy | April 8, 2023

After user activity surged in March, Polygon surges to become the second-largest gaming blockchain. Polygon overtook Hive for the second spot the previous month. The Hunters On-Chain RPG game partly drove the growth in the unique active wallet.

Surging user activity on Ethereum layer-2 Polygon in March led to the network becoming the second-largest blockchain gaming network based on the functional wallet (UAW).

Polygon’s Gaming User Activity Surges by 53%

According to a report published by Blockchain Games on April 6, DappRadar is a platform for analyzing decentralized applications (DAPPs). The number of UAWs engaging with games on Polygon hit 138,081in March. It is marking an increase of 53% compared to February.

It puts Polygon well ahead of third-ranked Hive and fourth-ranked BNB Chain, ranked at 84000 and 80000 UAWs. There are 314000 UAWs in WAX, the top-rated product. The Polygon blockchain, formerly known for DeFi DApps, took over Hive’s second position this month.

Hunters On-Chain RPG Games Drives Growth in Polygon User Activity

It is a positive sign for Polygon, now gaining recognition as a gaming blockchain. Polygon surges to become the second-largest gaming blockchain. A specific portion of the increase in UAWs on Polygon was due to the Hunters On-Chain game by Boom Land.

According to DappRadar data, it has seen a UAW increase of more than 17000 over the past 30 days alone. Thus, Hunters On Chain is a Web3 adaption of Boom Land’s mobile game Hunt Royale.

Polygon Gains Momentum in NFTs, Gaming, and Metaverse

In terms of design and style, it mimics Minecraft as a free-to-play RPG with NFT integrations. On March 9, the game saw an all-time high UAW count of around 55300. What especially drove the surge in interest for the game last month needs to be clarified.

Furthermore, anticipation for an in-game NFT sale on March 31 may have contributed. After analyzing the data from a broader perspective, it observed a decrease of 3.33% in on-chain gaming activity during March. Some bullish momentum has developed around Polygon over the past few months, mainly concerning NFTs, gaming, and the Metaverse.

Polygon Labs Secures Zero-Knowledge Rollup

So far, Polygon Labs, the team behind the network, has notched a long list of big-name partnerships, such as Warner Music, Starbucks, Adidas, Reddit, and Adobe, to develop and host NFT projects.

The team also successfully launched Polygon’s open-source Ethereum Virtual Machine equivalent zero-knowledge rollup on March 27. It touts to allow DApps to scale through transaction batching. It unlocks higher performance while reducing gas fees to conduct a transaction on the network.

Conclusion

An Ethereum layer-2, Polygon surges to become the second-largest gaming blockchain regarding unique active wallets (UAWs). Polygon saw a 53% increase in UAWs driven in part by the success of the Hunters On-Chain RPG game.

Although On-Chain gaming activity decreased in March, games comprise 45.6% of the DApp industry. Polygon is gaining momentum in the NFTs, gaming, and Metaverse spaces, with partnerships including Warner Music, Starbucks, Adidas, Reddit, and Adobe. The network also launched an open-source Ethereum Virtual Machine Equivalent Zero Knowledge rollup on March 27. It expects to improve scalability and reduce gas fees for transactions on the web.
